The result is a survival curve that shows the proportion of subjects who survive past specific time points. These curves make it easier to compare groups, such as patients receiving different treatments.

When scientists need to know whether two survival curves are truly different, they use the log-rank test. This test compares Kaplan-Meier curves without assuming a specific survival-time distribution. That makes it useful in many research settings.

For more detailed studies, researchers may use the Cox proportional hazards model. This model examines survival time along with multiple predictors, such as treatment type, age, or disease severity.
