Pascal's principle states that if the pressure in a confined fluid is changed, the change is transmitted to the entire fluid and to the walls of the container without being diminished in magnitude.
To understand this principle, consider a multiple nozzle water gun of cross-sectional area A filled with water.
When the piston is pressed with a force F, the corresponding pressure change F/A is transmitted through the entire volume of water and reaches each nozzle.
The water releases with the same pressure through each nozzle, following Pascal's principle.
Taking another example, let a barrel be connected to a long thin pipe through which the water is poured.
When the barrel is full, and an additional amount of water is poured into it, the pressure exerted by the entering water increases rapidly throughout its volume in the barrel, causing it to leak from all sides.
