Linoleic acid, an essential omega-6 fatty acid used to derive prostaglandins, can be obtained from most vegetable oils.
Cholesterol, a vital fat, is produced by the liver and can also be obtained from egg yolk and meat.
Lipids benefit humans in multiple ways. They add texture to food, promote satiety, protect organs, and insulate skin. They also aid in the absorption of lipid-soluble vitamins.
Additionally, lipids provide energy to cells and are key components of myelin sheaths and cellular membranes.
Even though lipids can make up over 40% of calories, most dietary guidelines aim to keep total blood cholesterol below 200 mg/dL due to the potential links between a fat-rich diet and cardiovascular disease.
