Psychic determinism is the belief that unconscious internal forces drive all psychological events. This concept suggests that deep internal conflicts manifest in dreams, neurotic symptoms, and Freudian slips, which is unintentionally substituting one word for another.
Furthermore, this theory focuses on early childhood experiences, particularly parenting, which is critical in shaping adult personality.
Secondly, symbolic meaning implies that even trivial actions can carry deeper significance and are often rooted in unconscious thoughts.
For example, if a professor breaks a piece of chalk in class, Freud might interpret it as symbolizing something significant.
Thirdly, unconscious motivation in Freudian theory highlights that much of what drives behavior is hidden from conscious awareness.
The unconscious mind contains thoughts, memories, desires, and conflicts influencing personality and behavior.
Lastly, central to Freud's theory is the role of the sexual drive, which he expanded beyond physical sexuality to highlight the pursuit of pleasure in general.
