Highly extroverted individuals are sociable, outgoing, and easy to connect with, while introverted individuals prefer solitude and solitary activities and limit social interactions.
Individuals high in neuroticism have heightened anxiety and an overactive sympathetic nervous system, leading to a fight-or-flight response in low-stress situations.
In contrast, emotionally stable individuals are more resilient and need more stimulation to trigger this response.
The Eysencks used these dimensions to categorize individuals into four quadrants corresponding to the four temperaments.
Melancholic individuals are introverted and high on neuroticism and are moody, anxious, and pessimistic.
Choleric individuals who are extroverted and high in neuroticism are touchy, restless, and aggressive.
Phlegmatic individuals are introverted and emotionally stable, displaying passive, peaceful, and controlled qualities.
Sanguine individuals who are extroverted and emotionally stable are sociable, lively, and carefree.
