Performance Trend Evaluation

Performance trend evaluation is an accounting method for assessing how an organization’s financial results and position change over time, helping users identify improvement, deterioration, and persistent patterns. It works by comparing financial statement data across reporting periods, often through horizontal analysis, percentage changes, and trend ratios for measures such as revenue, expenses, profit, assets, and liabilities. Analysts can then distinguish one-time fluctuations from sustained movements while considering factors such as seasonality or changes in accounting policies. The results support budgeting, forecasting, management decisions, investor analysis, and evaluation of operational efficiency and financial risk.
