Intensity Ratio Histogram

An intensity ratio histogram is a quantitative plot that shows how the ratios between two measured signal intensities are distributed across pixels, objects, or samples. It is generated by calculating corresponding intensity ratios, grouping the resulting values into defined bins, and displaying their frequencies to reveal central tendencies, variability, and subpopulations. In bioengineering, this analysis helps compare signals from paired imaging channels, normalize measurements, and assess spatial or sample-to-sample differences in fluorescence or other quantitative imaging data. The resulting distribution supports objective interpretation of engineered tissues, biomaterials, and biological systems while complementing visual image assessment.

Probability Histograms

A probability histogram is a visual representation of a probability distribution. Similar a typical histogram, the probability histogram consists of contiguous (adjoining) boxes. It has both a horizontal axis and a vertical axis. The horizontal axis is labeled with what the data represents. The vertical axis is labeled with probability. Each rectangular bar in the histogram is 1 unit wide, which suggests that the area under each bar equals the probability, P(x), where x is 1, 2, 3, and so on.

The histogram is a graphical representation in the x-y form of data distribution in a data set. The horizontal x-axis is labeled with what the data represents (for instance, distance from your home to school). The vertical y-axis is labeled either frequency or relative frequency (or percent frequency or probability). A histogram graph consists of contiguous (adjoining) boxes. The heights of the bars correspond to frequency values. The graph will have the same shape with respective labels. The...

Relative Frequency Histogram

The relative frequency depicts the proportion of data points that have each value. The frequency tells the number of data points that have each value. Like the histogram, a relative frequency histogram also has the same shape with a horizontal scale (the x-axis), but the vertical scale (the y-axis) is marked with relative frequencies (percentages of the whole) instead of actual frequencies. A relative frequency histogram is a graphical representation of a frequency distribution where the...

Liquidity Ratios: Current Ratio

Liquidity management involves strategically acquiring and using cash or near-cash resources, such as marketable securities, treasury bills, or short-term deposits, to ensure the company can meet its cash obligations as they come due. The current ratio, calculated by dividing current assets by current liabilities, is a valuable tool for evaluating a company's liquidity. Current assets are resources that can be quickly converted into cash, typically within a year. These include cash, cash...

Profitability Ratios: Net Profit Ratio

The net profit ratio is a financial metric that evaluates a company's ability to convert revenue into actual profit after accounting for all expenses. It is significant for several reasons: Profitability Assessment: The ratio provides a clear indication of a company's overall profitability. A higher ratio means the company retains more profit from its revenues, indicating efficient cost management and strong financial health. Operational Efficiency: Companies can assess their operational...
