Pin Tool

A pin tool is a laboratory device used to transfer small, controlled amounts of liquid or biological material between wells, microplates, or culture surfaces, enabling reproducible high-throughput experiments. Its metal or plastic pins contact a source sample, retain a defined volume through surface tension, and dispense it onto a destination by contact or stamping; multi-pin arrays can transfer many samples simultaneously. In biological techniques, pin tools support microbial culturing, colony replication, compound screening, and genetic or phenotypic assays. By standardizing inoculation and reducing manual handling, they improve experimental consistency, throughput, and efficient comparison across large sample sets.

Euler's Formula for Pin-Ended Columns

2024

In structural engineering, the stability of columns under compressive axial loads is a critical consideration, described as buckling. A typical example involves a column PQ, which is pin-connected at both ends and subjected to a centric axial load F applied at one end, with a reaction force of F' = -F at the other end. Here, it is crucial to understand that when an applied load exceeds the critical load, buckling occurs as the system becomes unstable. To calculate the critical load, envision...

2018

A microfluidic channel with deformable sidewalls offers flow control, particle handling, channel dimension customization and other reconfigurations while in use. We describe a method for fabricating a microfluidic channel with sidewalls made of an array of pins that allows their shape to change.

Citations play a key role in academic writing by documenting the evidence that supports scholarly claims. Beyond giving credit to original authors, they show engagement with existing research and strengthen the credibility of an argument. Effective citation practices are central to research literacy because they reflect a writer’s ability to locate, evaluate, and integrate reliable sources into their work. Digital Tools for Citation Management Advances in digital technology have simplified the...
