Immunohistochemical Analysis

Immunohistochemical analysis is a laboratory technique that identifies and localizes specific proteins or other antigens within tissue sections, linking molecular features to tissue structure. The method uses primary antibodies to bind target antigens, followed by labeled detection reagents that produce a colored or fluorescent signal; microscopy then reveals the target’s distribution and relative abundance in individual cells. In biology, this spatial information helps researchers characterize cell types, trace signaling pathways, and compare normal and diseased tissues. It also supports biomarker evaluation, developmental studies, and tissue-based investigations of disease mechanisms, although interpretation depends on appropriate controls and antibody specificity.
