Color Durability Testing

Color durability testing is the systematic evaluation of how well a material retains its color during use, storage, and environmental exposure, making it important for assessing chemical stability and product performance. In chemistry, tests expose dyes, pigments, coatings, polymers, or textiles to controlled conditions such as ultraviolet light, heat, moisture, chemicals, and abrasion, then quantify fading or color change against an untreated sample or standardized color scale. These measurements can identify degradation pathways, including photochemical reactions and interactions with oxygen or water. Results guide formulation, material selection, quality control, and the development of more durable products for industrial and consumer applications.

A Testing Platform for Durability Studies of Polymers and Fiber-reinforced Polymer Composites under Concurrent Hygrothermo-mechanical Stimuli

2014

The durability of polymers and fiber-reinforced polymer composites in service is a critical aspect for their designs and condition-based maintenance. We present a novel low-cost laboratory testing platform for the investigation of the influence of concurrent mechanical and environmental loadings, and may help design more efficient yet safer composite structures.

2014

Reading in color is a new method for training letter-color associations that are typically found only in grapheme-color synesthetes. It involves an implicit form of training that has potential for long-term associative training methods because the training is a byproduct of reading and any text can be colored.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Human color vision is impressive. People with normal color vision can tell apart millions of individual hues. Most amazingly, this ability is achieved with fairly simple hardware. Part of the power of human color vision comes from a clever bit of engineering in the human brain. There, color perception relies on what is known as an 'opponent system.' This means that the presence of one kind of stimulus is treated as evidence for...

2016

In this study, a protocol was developed to produce good quality pellets using a flat die pellet mill at reduced specific energy consumption testing high-moisture corn stover and a starch based binder. The results indicated that adding a corn starch binder improved the pellet durability, reduced percent fines and decreased specific energy consumption.

Brick Durability, Strength, and Appearance

Brick durability, strength, and appearance are crucial factors in construction, influencing the choice of bricks for specific applications. The process of freeze-thaw, for instance, significantly affects brick durability. This phenomenon occurs when water absorbed by a brick expands as it freezes, potentially causing damage when it melts and refreezes. Bricks are graded for durability: SW-grade bricks are the most durable, offering high strength and low water absorption, followed by MW-grade...
