Reaction Transport Processes

Reaction transport processes describe the coupled movement and chemical transformation of matter within a system, linking where species travel with how they react. Transport occurs through mechanisms such as diffusion, convection, or migration, while reactions alter species concentrations and can, in turn, change concentration gradients and fluxes. In chemistry, analyzing these interactions helps explain behavior in reaction vessels, porous materials, membranes, catalytic systems, and environmental media. Reaction transport models combine mass balances, rate laws, and transport equations to predict concentration profiles, reaction yields, and system performance, supporting the design and optimization of chemical processes and materials.

The presented protocol describes the analysis of membrane protein mediated transport on the single transporter level using pore-spanning solvent-free lipid bilayers. This is achieved by the creation of bulk produced nanopore array chips, combined with highly parallel data acquisition and analysis, enabling the future establishment of membrane protein effector screenings.

Source: Smaa Koraym at Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA Collecting Data for Calculating the Heat Capacity of a CalorimeterExpand This experiment will use a constant-pressure calorimeter made of two stacked polystyrene cups, a cardboard lid, and a probe measuring the temperature of a solution in real-time. Polystyrene is a good insulator, so you can assume that no heat is exchanged between the inside and outside of the cups. The calorimeter itself will absorb some heat, which you'll account...

Regulated mRNA Transport

2020

In eukaryotes, transcription and translation are compartmentalized; an mRNA is first synthesized in the nucleus and then selectively transported to the cytoplasm for protein synthesis. Before transport, a pre-mRNA undergoes several steps of post-transcriptional modifications including splicing, 5' capping, and the addition of a poly-adenine tail. Various proteins bind to the pre-mRNA during these modifications. The mRNA transport takes place with the help of multiple proteins playing specific...
