Sealed Vessel Technique

The sealed vessel technique is a chemistry method in which reactants are enclosed in a closed container to control the reaction environment and retain volatile components. As the vessel is heated or otherwise conditioned, solvent and reagent vapors remain confined, allowing pressure and composition to change according to the reaction while limiting evaporation and exposure to the outside atmosphere. Chemists use this approach for reactions involving volatile solvents or gases, controlled heating, and conditions that require a defined composition, improving reproducibility and enabling transformations that may be difficult to perform in an open system.

Here we present a protocol for performing reactions in simple reaction vessels under low-to-moderate pressures of CO2. The reactions can be performed in a variety of vessels simply by administering the carbon dioxide in the form of dry ice, without the need for costly or elaborate equipment or set-ups.

Assessing Vessel Perfusion via Angiography: A Technique to Introduce Contrast Agent in Descending Aorta to Visualize Blood Vessel Perfusion in Rabbit Model

Key procedures to optimize the sealing process and achieve real-time monitoring of the metal-to-glass seal (MTGS) structure are described in detail. The embedded fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor is designed to achieve online monitoring of temperature and high-level residual stress in the MTGS with simultaneous environmental pressure monitoring.

Operation of High-pressure Reactor Vessels

Robert M Rioux, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA The use of gases in a synthetic chemistry laboratory is essential for carrying out a variety of highly facile and atom economical transformations. Reactions such as hydrogenation, oxidation, and amination require the use of gases like hydrogen, oxygen, and ammonia. Due to the poor solubility of these gases in typical reactant solutions, high pressures are necessary to achieve a meaningful reaction rate. Not only are these gases...
