Dependent Interventions

Dependent interventions are clinical actions that require an authorized healthcare provider’s order or direction before implementation, distinguishing them from independent nursing decisions and collaborative care. They work through a prescribed plan in which the clinician identifies the intervention, specifies its dose, timing, or conditions, and monitors the patient’s response while following institutional protocols and professional scope of practice. Examples include administering prescribed medications, carrying out ordered treatments, and preparing patients for diagnostic procedures. Understanding dependent interventions supports accurate care planning, clear accountability, interdisciplinary communication, patient safety, and timely recognition of outcomes or adverse responses in clinical practice.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

2025

Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation. A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome is...

Chemical Kinetics and the Reaction Rate Law Chemical kinetics refers to the rate or speed of a chemical reaction. The rate depends on the mechanism, complexity, and number of reactants in the reaction. Reactant concentration also plays a significant role in the rate of a reaction. The rate law quantifies this relationship through experimentation. Each reactant contributes to the speed of the reaction by a factor known as the reaction order. This factor can range from zero to two, and it depends...

Chemical Kinetics The reaction rate is the speed at which a chemical reaction occurs. The reaction rate is defined as the change in concentration of a component in the reaction with time. The speed of a reaction depends on several factors, including the concentration of reactants and the temperature at which the reaction is performed. Each reactant contributes to the speed of the reaction by a specific factor. This relationship is defined by the reaction rate law. Rate Law The rate law is an...

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions: Characteristics of the nursing diagnosis Goals and expected outcomes Evidence basis (e.g., research or...
