Center Tapped Transformer

A center-tapped transformer is a transformer whose secondary winding includes an electrical connection at its midpoint, creating two equal winding sections and enabling multiple voltage outputs or alternating circuit paths. When alternating current energizes the primary, electromagnetic induction produces voltages across the secondary sections; relative to the center tap, these voltages have equal magnitude and opposite polarity during each half-cycle. In engineering, this configuration supports full-wave rectifiers, where two diodes use the center tap to convert AC into pulsating DC, and push-pull power circuits that drive each half of the winding alternately. Its design can simplify circuit layouts, provide electrical isolation, and support efficient power conversion.

Drosophila is famous for its powerful genetic manipulation, but not for its suitability of in-depth biochemical analysis. Here we present a TAP-based procedure to identify interacting partners of any protein of interest from the fly brain. This procedure can potentially lead to new avenues of research.

Bacterial Transformation - Concepts

Background In early 20th century, pneumonia was accountable for a large portion of infectious disease deaths1. In order to develop an effective vaccine against pneumonia, Frederick Griffith set out to study two different strains of the Streptococcus pneumoniae: a non-virulent strain with a rough appearance (R-strain) and a virulent strain with a smooth appearance (S-strain) due to an outer polysaccharide capsule2. This outer layer of the S-strain bacteria enabled them to withstand the host...

Bacterial Transformation ExpandIMPORTANT: In addition to wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment, be sure to take care to keep your face away from suspension cultures, and to avoid inhaling reagents. Do not touch your face while performing the experiment. Always wash your hands before and after every experiment. When you are ready to safely begin, check to make sure you have a tube or tubes of competent E. coli cells in your ice bucket. Then, transfer 50 µL from one of these tubes...

Lattice Centering and Coordination Number

The structure of a crystalline solid, whether a metal or not, is best described by considering its simplest repeating unit, which is referred to as its unit cell. The unit cell consists of lattice points that represent the locations of atoms or ions. The entire structure then consists of this unit cell repeating in three dimensions. The three different types of unit cells present in the cubic lattice are illustrated in Figure 1. Types of Unit Cells Imagine taking a large number of identical...
