Load Resistance Optimization

Load resistance optimization is the engineering process of selecting a load resistance that achieves a desired balance among power delivery, efficiency, voltage, and current in an electrical system. For a source with internal resistance, the maximum power transfer theorem predicts that the load receives its greatest power when its resistance matches the source resistance, although overall efficiency then remains limited. Engineers evaluate voltage division, current draw, heat generation, and operating constraints to choose an appropriate resistance rather than maximizing power alone. This analysis supports the design of amplifiers, power supplies, sensor circuits, battery systems, and electronic interfaces, improving performance, reliability, and energy use.

Drug resistance to targeted therapeutics is widespread and the need to identify mechanisms of resistance--prior to or following clinical onset--is critical for guiding alternative clinical management strategies. Here, we present a protocol to couple derivation of drug-resistant lines in vitro with sequencing to expedite discovery of these mechanisms.

Resistivity

2023

When a voltage is applied to a conductor, an electrical field is generated, and charges in the conductor feel the force due to the electrical field. The current density that results depends on the electrical field and the properties of the material. In some materials, including metals at a given temperature, the current density is approximately proportional to the electrical field. In these cases, the current density can be modeled as: where σ is the electrical conductivity and is represented...

When a current moves through any conductor, the conductor causes some level of difficulty for the current to flow. The measure of that difficulty is known as the resistance of the material and is represented by R. Every material has its own resistance. In the case of conductors, heat is emitted whenever a current passes through them. Resistance depends on the resistivity of the material. Resistivity is a characteristic of the material used to fabricate electrical components, whereas the...

Impact Loading

Impact loading occurs when a moving object collides with a stationary structure, such as a rod with a uniform cross-sectional area fixed at one end. Under these conditions, the rod absorbs the kinetic energy from the striking object, leading to deformation and subsequent stress development. As the rod returns to its original position and reaches maximum stress, the absorbed energy, initially manifested as kinetic energy, transforms entirely into strain energy. In cases of elastic deformation,...

Optimal Foraging - Concepts

Optimal Foraging Organisms must acquire and use resources in their environment to survive. While food is one of the primary resources organisms must search for, individuals also need to seek habitats, shelter, and mates. This process of searching for resources is known as foraging, which involves a series of costs and benefits. More specifically, acquiring a resource provides the organism with a benefit, however, searching and capturing the resource requires expenditure of time and energy.
