Firm Valuation

Firm valuation is the process of estimating the economic worth of a business, an essential task in finance for investment, strategic, and transaction decisions. Analysts typically forecast a firm's future cash flows or earnings, adjust for risk and the time value of money, and apply methods such as discounted cash flow analysis, comparable-company multiples, or asset-based valuation. The resulting estimate depends on assumptions about growth, profitability, capital structure, and market conditions. Valuation supports mergers and acquisitions, equity research, corporate planning, and capital allocation, while also helping investors assess whether a firm's market price appears reasonable relative to its underlying financial performance.
