Electroacupuncture Therapy

Electroacupuncture therapy is a technique that combines acupuncture needling with controlled electrical stimulation to influence physiological function, particularly pain processing. During treatment, fine needles are inserted at selected acupuncture points, and low-voltage pulses pass between paired needles, producing rhythmic stimulation of peripheral nerves that can engage endogenous opioid release and descending pain-modulation pathways. In medicine, electroacupuncture is used to study and manage conditions such as musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, and postoperative discomfort, while researchers evaluate how stimulation frequency, intensity, and treatment location affect outcomes. Its standardized electrical parameters also support more reproducible investigation than manual needle manipulation alone.

Effects of Different Connection Modes of Electroacupuncture on Electrocardiogram and Nerve Discharge in Rats

2025

Until now, there is no uniform method for electroacupuncture connection in clinical and fundamental research. We present a protocol that attempted to compare the effects of different connection methods on electrocardiogram (ECG) and neural discharge in rats to explore the most appropriate way to connect the electroacupuncture instrument.
