Fat Volume Segmentation

Fat volume segmentation is a medical imaging technique that identifies and measures adipose tissue within anatomical images, helping quantify body-fat distribution and its relationship to health. It typically separates fat from muscle, organs, and other tissues in computed tomography or magnetic resonance images using intensity-based thresholds, image processing, or machine-learning models, then calculates volumes for regions such as subcutaneous and visceral fat. In medicine, these measurements support obesity assessment, cardiometabolic risk evaluation, treatment planning, and monitoring of changes during interventions. Reliable segmentation also enables standardized research on body composition, disease progression, and patient-specific outcomes.
