Cost Effective System

A cost-effective system is an approach, device, or workflow designed to achieve reliable performance while minimizing financial, material, and operational resources. In neuroscience, cost effectiveness typically depends on selecting accessible components, simplifying system design, and balancing measurement quality, throughput, maintenance, and scalability rather than reducing cost alone. Such systems can broaden access to neural research by supporting affordable data acquisition, behavioral experiments, computational analysis, or laboratory instruction. Evaluating performance alongside total ownership costs helps researchers determine whether a system can produce reproducible results and remain practical for educational settings, resource-limited laboratories, and larger research programs.
