Klingler Dissection Method

The Klingler Dissection Method is a neuroanatomical technique for exposing the brain’s white matter pathways and studying their three-dimensional organization. After formalin fixation, repeated freezing and thawing produces ice crystals that separate myelinated fiber bundles, allowing the overlying cortex and fibers to be removed through careful blunt dissection. This method reveals association, commissural, and projection pathways that are difficult to appreciate in conventional sections. By linking gross anatomy with diffusion tractography and clinical imaging, Klingler dissection supports neuroscience education, research on brain connectivity, and anatomical planning for neurosurgical procedures.

Drosophila Adult Brain Dissection: A Method in Fly Neurobiology

2023

This video describes how to dissect and isolate the adult Drosophila brain–a procedure necessary for visualizing the organ, which is otherwise obscured by the cuticle, eye, and tracheal tissue. The example protocol shows a detailed demonstration yielding high-quality preparations that can be used for immunostaining and imaging methods in Drosophila neurobiology.

This video describes a technique of isolating the heart from a zebrafish at multiple developmental stages to study cardiac development, maturation, and ageing.

Dissection of the Midgut from an Adult Fly: A Method for Isolating the Digestive Tract

In this video, we highlight a dissection of the adult Drosophila intestine and collection of midguts suitable for single-cell dissociation and FACS in order to isolate intestinal stem cells.

Drosophila Larva Imaginal Disc Dissection: A Method to Observe Developing Epithelia

2023

When staining Drosophila imaginal discs, often a rough dissection is performed where the discs are exposed but remain attached to the body. Once stained, the discs of interest are isolated and mounted. The example protocol demonstrates a procedure for wing imaginal disc dissection and mounting.

Drosophila Male Accessory Gland Dissection: A Method to Isolate Secondary Cells
