Printed Circuit Board

A printed circuit board (PCB) is a structured platform that mechanically supports electronic components and electrically connects them through conductive traces, enabling compact, reliable circuit construction. Typically, copper pathways patterned on an insulating substrate route power and signals between components, while multilayer designs and soldered connections support greater circuit complexity. In neuroscience, PCBs integrate sensors, amplifiers, signal-conditioning circuits, data converters, and communication hardware for systems that record or stimulate neural activity. Their design influences signal quality, electrical noise, device size, and experimental reliability, making PCBs important in electrophysiology, neural interfaces, brain-computer interfaces, and portable research instruments.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC/DC converters are power electronic converters that convert DC voltages and currents from a certain level to another level. Typically, voltage conversion is the main purpose of DC/DC converters and three main types of conversion exist in a single converter: stepping up, stepping down, and stepping up or down. Among the most common step-up converters are boost converters (Refer to this collections...
