Therapeutic Intervention Strategies

Therapeutic intervention strategies are planned methods used to prevent, manage, or treat disorders by altering biological, behavioral, or environmental factors. In neuroscience, these strategies can target neural circuits, neurotransmitter signaling, or brain plasticity through approaches such as medication, behavioral therapy, rehabilitation, and neuromodulation. Their effectiveness is assessed through changes in symptoms, cognitive or motor function, and quality of life, often using clinical and behavioral measures. Understanding how different interventions influence the nervous system supports personalized treatment, improves care for neurological and psychiatric conditions, and guides the development of safer, more precise therapies.

Cardiovascular exercise and stimulating experiences in a complex environment have positive benefits on multiple measures of neuroplasticity within the rodent brain. This article will discuss the implementation of these interventions as a "superintervention" which combines wheel running and environmental complexity and will address the limitations of these interventions.

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Monitoring Animals for Signs of Pain and Distress Recognizing early signs of pain is essential for ethical animal research. Animals are routinely monitored using behavioral, physical, and physiological parameters that reflect...

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

2025

Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation. A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome is...
