Plasma Concentration

Plasma concentration is the amount of a drug present in a given volume of blood plasma, a key measure for understanding drug exposure and therapeutic response. After administration, concentration changes as the drug is absorbed, distributed through the body, metabolized, and eliminated, producing a time-dependent concentration–time profile. Pharmacologists use these profiles to assess pharmacokinetic parameters such as peak concentration, time to peak, and drug half-life, and to compare dosing regimens. Monitoring plasma concentration can help maintain levels within a therapeutic range, guide dose adjustments, evaluate drug interactions, and reduce the risk of ineffective treatment or toxicity.

Concentration Cells

A concentration cell is a type of a voltaic cell constructed by connecting two almost identical half-cells, both based on the same half-reaction and using the same electrode, differing only in the concentration of one redox species. A concentration cell's potential, therefore, is determined only by the concentration difference of the particular redox species. Consider the following voltaic cell: From the given information, the cell potential of this concentration cell can be calculated using...
