Organic Compounds

Związki chemiczne złożone głównie z atomów węgla związanych z atomami wodoru, tlenu, azotu lub siarki nazywane są związkami organicznymi. 

Związki organiczne tworzą ogromną różnorodność cząsteczek – od podstawowych elementów budulcowych życia, takich jak DNA lub ściany komórkowe roślin, po materiały uwalniające energię, takie jak paliwa. Zwykle łatwo je rozbić.

Atomy węgla stanowią szkielet każdego związku organicznego, który może przybierać różnorodne struktury z układami pierścieniowymi, rozgałęzionymi i o prostym łańcuchu ze względu na wszechstronność węgla w tworzeniu czterech wiązań, jako wiązań pojedynczych, podwójnych lub potrójnych.  

Związki organiczne mogą być węglowodorami lub węglowodorami funkcjonalizowanymi. 

Węglowodory składają się wyłącznie z atomów węgla i wodoru. Alkany to węglowodory zawierające wiązania pojedyncze. Alkeny zawierają jedno lub więcej wiązań podwójnych, podczas gdy alkiny zawierają jedno lub więcej wiązań potrójnych.

Nomenklatura węglowodorów jest zgodna ze wzorcem, w którym nazwa podstawowa jest wymieniana jako pierwsza przy użyciu przedrostka określonego przez liczbę atomów węgla. Nazwa kończy się przyrostkiem –ane, –en lub –yne w zależności od obecności odpowiednio wiązań pojedynczych, podwójnych lub potrójnych. 

Na przykład pojedynczym wiązaniem zawierającym alkan z trzema atomami węgla jest propan. Wiązanie podwójne zawierające alken z trzema atomami węgla to propen, podczas gdy wiązanie potrójne zawierające alkin z trzema atomami węgla to propyn.  

Węglowodory z jednym lub więcej atomami wodoru podstawionymi przez określoną grupę atomów lub grupy funkcyjne nazywane są węglowodorami funkcjonalizowanymi. Ogólny wzór węglowodorów funkcjonalizowanych oznacza część węglowodorową literą "R" i właściwą grupą funkcyjną.

Grupy funkcyjne mogą być różnego rodzaju i mieć określone właściwości fizyczne i chemiczne. Wszystkie związki organiczne noszące wspólną grupę funkcyjną należą do tej samej rodziny węglowodorów, wykazują podobne właściwości i mają podobną nomenklaturę. 

Na przykład wszystkie związki organiczne przenoszące grupę funkcyjną –OH nazywane są alkoholami. W nomenklaturze wymienia się nazwę zasady macierzystej alkanów zakończoną sufiksem –ol, specyficzną dla grupy funkcyjnej alkoholu. Stąd propan mający grupę funkcyjną –OH nazywa się propanolem.  

Natomiast wszystkie związki organiczne przenoszące karboksylowe grupy funkcyjne nazywane są kwasami karboksylowymi. Nomenklatura podaje nazwę zasady macierzystej alkanu zakończoną przyrostkiem –kwas einowy, unikalną dla karboksylowej grupy funkcyjnej. Stąd propan z karboksylową grupą funkcyjną nazywany jest kwasem propanowym .

Wszystkie żywe istoty składają się głównie ze związków węgla, zwanych związkami organicznymi. Kategoria związków organicznych obejmuje zarówno związki naturalne, jak i syntetyczne zawierające węgiel. Chociaż społeczność chemiczna nie określiła jeszcze jednej, dokładnej definicji, większość z nich zgadza się co do tego, że cechą definiującą cząsteczki organiczne jest obecność węgla jako głównego pierwiastka, związanego z wodorem i innymi atomami węgla. Niektóre związki zawierające węgiel, takie jak węglany, cyjanki i proste tlenki (CO i CO2), nie są jednak klasyfikowane jako związki organiczne.


Związki organiczne są kluczowymi składnikami tworzyw sztucznych, mydeł, perfum, słodzików, tkanin, farmaceutyków i wielu innych substancji używanych na co dzień. Do związków organicznych zalicza się związki pochodzące z organizmów żywych oraz te syntetyzowane przez chemików. Istnienie szerokiej gamy cząsteczek organicznych jest konsekwencją zdolności atomów węgla do tworzenia maksymalnie czterech silnych wiązań z innymi atomami węgla, w wyniku czego powstają łańcuchy i pierścienie o wielu różnych rozmiarach, kształtach i złożoności.

</h4>
Najprostsze związki organiczne zawierają tylko pierwiastki węgiel i wodór i nazywane są węglowodorami. Węglowodory mogą różnić się rodzajem wiązań węgiel-węgiel występujących w ich cząsteczkach. Te, które zawierają tylko wiązania pojedyncze, nazywane są alkanami, natomiast te zawierające wiązania podwójne lub potrójne to odpowiednio alkeny i alkiny. Chociaż wszystkie węglowodory składają się tylko z dwóch rodzajów atomów (węgla i wodoru), istnieje szeroka gama węglowodorów, ponieważ mogą składać się z łańcuchów o różnej długości, łańcuchów rozgałęzionych i pierścieni atomów węgla lub kombinacji tych struktur.

Węglowodory są wykorzystywane na co dzień, głównie jako paliwa, takie jak gaz ziemny, acetylen, propan, butan oraz główne składniki benzyny, oleju napędowego i oleju opałowego. Alkany, czyli węglowodory nasycone, zawierają tylko pojedyncze wiązania kowalencyjne pomiędzy atomami węgla. Właściwości takie jak temperatura topnienia i temperatura wrzenia zwykle zmieniają się w przewidywalny sposób wraz ze zmianą liczby atomów węgla i wodoru w cząsteczkach.


Aby nazwać prosty alkan, najpierw określ przedrostek w zależności od liczby atomów węgla w łańcuchu (met = 1, et = 2, prop = 3, but = 4, pent = 5, heks = 6, hept = 7, okt = 8, non = 9 i dek = 10). Po przedrostku z podstawnikiem następuje przyrostek — określany na podstawie tego, czy węglowodór jest alkanem (-an), alkenem (-en) czy alkinem (-yn). Na przykład dwuwęglowy alkan nazywany jest etanem; alkan trójwęglowy nazywany jest propanem; a czterowęglowy alkan nazywa się butanem. Dłuższe łańcuchy nazywane są następująco: pentan (łańcuch 5-węglowy), heksan (6), heptan (7), oktan (8), nonan (9) i dekan (10).


Alkeny i alkiny to nienasycone węglowodory zawierające odpowiednio wiązania podwójne i potrójne pomiędzy co najmniej dwoma atomami węgla. Ich nazewnictwo przebiega według tych samych etapów, co w przypadku alkanów: nazwa podstawowa + przyrostek. Na przykład dwuwęglowy łańcuch alkenowy nazywany jest etenem, a dwuwęglowy alkin nazywany jest etynem; trójwęglowy alken nazywa się propenem, a trójwęglowy alkin nazywa się propynem i tak dalej.

<h4>Węglowodory funkcyjne
</h4>
Włączenie grupy funkcyjnej do cząsteczek zawierających węgiel i wodór prowadzi do nowych rodzin związków zwanych węglowodorami funkcyjnymi. Grupa funkcyjna to charakterystyczny atom lub grupa atomów, która przede wszystkim determinuje właściwości pochodnych węglowodorów.

Jednym z typów grup funkcyjnych jest grupa –OH. Związki posiadające grupę funkcyjną –OH to alkohole. Nazwa alkoholu pochodzi od węglowodoru, z którego pochodzi. Zgodnie z konwencją część węglowodorową cząsteczki oznaczono jako „R”; więc ogólny wzór alkoholu to R – OH. Na końcu nazwy węglowodoru zapisuje się przyrostek „–ol”. W przypadku rozgałęzionego alkoholu atom węgla, z którym jest związana grupa –OH, jest oznaczony liczbą umieszczoną przed nazwą. Inne popularne grupy funkcyjne wymienione są poniżej. Grupa związków zawierająca tę samą grupę funkcyjną tworzy rodzinę:

Etery to związki zawierające grupę funkcyjną –O–, o ogólnym wzorze R–O–R’.

Inna klasa cząsteczek organicznych zawiera atom węgla połączony z atomem tlenu wiązaniem podwójnym, powszechnie nazywanym grupą karbonylową. Węgiel w grupie karbonylowej może przyłączyć się do dwóch innych podstawników, co prowadzi do kilku podrodzin (aldehydy, ketony, kwasy karboksylowe i estry).

Grupy funkcyjne związane z grupą karbonylową obejmują grupę –CHO aldehydu, grupę –CO– ketonu, grupę –CO2H kwasu karboksylowego i grupę –CO2R estru. Grupa karbonylowa, podwójne wiązanie węgiel-tlen, jest kluczową strukturą w tych klasach cząsteczek organicznych. Aldehydy zawierają co najmniej jeden atom wodoru przyłączony do karbonylowego atomu węgla, ketony zawierają dwie grupy węglowe przyłączone do karbonylowego atomu węgla, kwasy karboksylowe zawierają grupę hydroksylową przyłączoną do karbonylowego atomu węgla, a estry zawierają atom tlenu przyłączony do innej grupy węgla połączony z karbonylowym atomem węgla. Wszystkie te związki zawierają utlenione atomy węgla w stosunku do atomu węgla grupy alkoholowej.

Dodanie azotu do struktury organicznej prowadzi do dwóch rodzin cząsteczek, mianowicie amin i amidów. Związki zawierające atom azotu związany w strukturze węglowodorowej są klasyfikowane jako aminy. Związki, które mają atom azotu związany po jednej stronie grupy karbonylowej, są klasyfikowane jako amidy. Aminy są podstawową grupą funkcyjną. Aminy i kwasy karboksylowe mogą łączyć się w reakcji kondensacji, tworząc amidy.

Organic molecules are carbon-based compounds found in living things and in many everyday products. Most organic compounds have carbon as the main element, bonded to hydrogen and other carbon atoms. Some carbon-containing substances, such as carbonates, cyanides, and simple oxides like CO and CO2, are not classified as organic.

Carbon can form up to four strong bonds, which helps explain why organic compounds can make chains and rings of many sizes and shapes. These molecules appear in plastics, soaps, perfumes, sweeteners, fabrics, pharmaceuticals, and many other materials used daily. Organic compounds may come from living organisms, or they may be made by chemists.

The simplest organic compounds are hydrocarbons, which contain only carbon and hydrogen. Hydrocarbons can have only single bonds, only double bonds, or only triple bonds. Those with single bonds are called alkanes, while those with double or triple bonds are called alkenes and alkynes.

Hydrocarbons vary because their carbon atoms can form straight chains, branched chains, rings, or combinations of these structures. Examples include butane, isobutane, and cyclobutane. Hydrocarbons are widely used as fuels, including natural gas, acetylene, propane, butane, and the main components of gasoline, diesel fuel, and heating oil.

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons because they contain only single covalent bonds between carbon atoms. Their melting point and boiling point usually change in a regular way as the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms changes. Simple alkane names use a prefix based on the number of carbon atoms, such as meth, eth, prop, but, pent, hex, hept, oct, non, and dec, followed by the ending -ane.

This naming pattern also helps identify alkenes and alkynes. The suffix changes to -ene for alkenes and -yne for alkynes. A two-carbon alkane is ethane, a three-carbon alkane is propane, and a four-carbon alkane is butane. The matching alkene and alkyne names are ethene and ethyne, then propene and propyne.

Adding a functional group to a hydrocarbon creates a functionalized hydrocarbon. A functional group is a specific atom or group of atoms that largely controls the properties of the compound. One common example is the -OH group, which makes a molecule an alcohol. Alcohol names come from the hydrocarbon name, with the final -e changed to -ol, and a branched alcohol may need a number to show where the -OH group is attached.

Other families of functionalized hydrocarbons include ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amines, and amides. Ethers contain an -O- group and have the general formula R-O-R'. Carbonyl compounds contain a carbon-oxygen double bond. In aldehydes, the carbonyl carbon has at least one hydrogen attached. In ketones, it has two carbon groups attached. In carboxylic acids, a hydroxyl group is attached to the carbonyl carbon. In esters, an oxygen atom is attached to another carbon group connected to the carbonyl carbon.

These carbonyl families all have carbon atoms that are more oxidized than the carbon atom in an alcohol group. Nitrogen can also be part of organic molecules. Compounds with nitrogen in a hydrocarbon framework are called amines, and compounds with nitrogen on one side of a carbonyl group are called amides. Amines are basic, and amines can react with carboxylic acids in a condensation reaction to form amides.
