Chemical Equations

Reakcje chemiczne obejmują przemiany chemiczne jednej lub więcej substancji w różne materiały. Reakcja jest konwencjonalnie reprezentowana za pomocą równania chemicznego, które wykorzystuje wzory chemiczne do reprezentowania zaangażowanych atomów, cząsteczek lub związków.

Substancje obecne na początku reakcji i zużywane podczas procesu nazywane są reagentami. Reagenty są określone po lewej stronie równania. Substancje powstające podczas reakcji nazywane są produktami i są wskazane po prawej stronie równania.

Strzałka oddzielająca reagenty i produkty pokazuje kierunek reakcji. Różne stany skupienia są przedstawione za pomocą skrótów ujętych w nawiasy. 

Reakcja chemiczna jest zgodna z prawem zachowania masy, w którym zachowane są całkowite masy wszystkich uczestniczących pierwiastków. Dlatego skumulowana liczba atomów każdego pierwiastka będzie pasować zarówno w reagentach, jak i produktach.  

Równania chemiczne są równoważone za pomocą współczynników liczbowych, aby odzwierciedlić rzeczywistą liczbę atomów biorących udział w reakcji. Ważne jest, aby zmieniać tylko współczynniki liczbowe, a nie indeksy dolne, które definiują tożsamość związku podczas równoważenia dowolnego równania chemicznego. 

Ogólne wskazówki pomagają skutecznie zilustrować i dostosować równanie chemiczne.

Na przykład spalanie ciekłego kwasu benzoesowego, tworzącego gazowy dwutlenek węgla i wodę, jest początkowo reprezentowane za pomocą równania chemicznego szkieletu. Atomy są następnie równoważone, najpierw dostosowując te w związkach, a następnie atomy wolnych pierwiastków. 

Włączenie współczynników siódmego i trzeciego przed wzorami na dwutlenek węgla i wodę równoważy atomy węgla i wodoru. Współczynnik ułamkowy 15/2 dostosowuje atomy tlenu. 

Współczynniki ułamkowe są przekształcane na liczby całkowite przez pomnożenie całego równania przez mianownik. Łączna liczba atomów każdego pierwiastka jest równa po obu stronach w zrównoważonym równaniu.

W równaniach chemicznych reprezentujących reakcje z udziałem związków jonowych najpierw równoważone są kationy, a następnie aniony. Jony wieloatomowe są zawsze równoważone jako jednostka.

Na przykład wodny siarczan glinu reaguje z wodnym wodorotlenkiem wapnia, tworząc stały wodorotlenek glinu i stały siarczan wapnia. Za pomocą równania szkieletowego kationy glinu i wapnia są zrównoważone, a następnie aniony wieloatomowych jonów wodorotlenku i siarczanu. Na koniec współczynniki są dostosowywane, aby uzyskać ogólnie zrównoważone równanie.

Równania chemiczne przedstawiają tożsamość i względne ilości substancji biorących udział w reakcji chemicznej. Substancje podlegające reakcji nazywane są reagentami, a ich wzory umieszcza się po lewej stronie równania. Substancje powstałe w wyniku reakcji nazywane są produktami, a ich wzory umieszcza się po prawej stronie równania. Znaki plus (+) oddzielają poszczególne wzory reagentów i produktów, a strzałka (→) oddziela reagenty i produkty (lewą i prawą) stronę równania. Względne liczby reagentów i produktów są reprezentowane przez współczynniki liczbowe, umieszczone bezpośrednio po lewej stronie każdego wzoru. Zwykle nie jest pokazywany współczynnik 1. W równaniach chemicznych powszechnie stosuje się najmniejsze możliwe współczynniki całkowite i interpretuje się je jako stosunki. Na przykład metan i tlen reagują, dając dwutlenek węgla i wodę w stosunku 1:2:1:2.

Stosunek wskazuje, że najmniejsze możliwe współczynniki metanu, tlenu, dwutlenku węgla i wody wynoszą odpowiednio 1, 2, 1 i 2. Współczynniki można interpretować w odniesieniu do dowolnej jednostki ilości (liczby), dlatego równanie to można poprawnie odczytać na wiele sposobów, m.in.:

I. Jedna cząsteczka metanu i dwie cząsteczki tlenu reagują, dając jedną cząsteczkę dwutlenku węgla i dwie cząsteczki wody.

II. Jeden mol cząsteczek metanu i 2 mole cząsteczek tlenu reagują, dając 1 mol cząsteczki dwutlenku węgla i 2 mole cząsteczek wody.

Stany fizyczne reagentów i produktów w równaniach chemicznych są bardzo często oznaczane skrótem w nawiasie po wzorach. Standardowe skróty obejmują „s” dla ciał stałych, „l” dla cieczy, „g” dla gazów i „aq” dla substancji rozpuszczonych w wodzie.

<h4>Równania bilansujące</h4>

W zrównoważonym równaniu liczba atomów każdego pierwiastka biorącego udział w reakcji jest taka sama po stronie reagenta i produktu, dlatego pozwala spełnić prawo zachowania materii. Zrównoważone równanie można potwierdzić poprzez dodanie liczby atomów po obu stronach strzałki i porównując te sumy, aby upewnić się, że są równe. Należy pamiętać, że liczbę atomów danego pierwiastka oblicza się poprzez pomnożenie współczynnika dowolnego wzoru zawierającego ten pierwiastek przez indeks dolny elementu we wzorze. Jeśli element występuje w więcej niż jednym wzorze po danej stronie równania, należy obliczyć liczbę atomów reprezentowanych w każdym z nich, a następnie dodać je do siebie.

Aby zrównoważyć równanie, współczynniki równania można zmieniać w razie potrzeby. Czasami wygodnie jest używać ułamków zamiast liczb całkowitych jako współczynników pośrednich w procesie równoważenia równania chemicznego. Po osiągnięciu równowagi wszystkie współczynniki równania można następnie pomnożyć przez liczbę całkowitą, aby przekształcić współczynniki ułamkowe na liczby całkowite, bez zakłócania równowagi atomowej.

Na przykład reakcja etanu (C2H6) z tlenem daje wodę i dwutlenek węgla, co można przedstawić za pomocą następującego niezrównoważonego równania:

Chemical equations show the identities and relative amounts of substances in a chemical reaction. The substances that react are called reactants, and their formulas are written on the left side of the equation. The substances formed are called products, and their formulas are written on the right side. A plus sign (+) separates formulas on the same side, and an arrow (→) shows the change from reactants to products.

The numbers in a chemical equation are shown with coefficients. A coefficient is the number written in front of a formula. A coefficient of 1 is usually not written. The smallest whole-number coefficients are commonly used, and they work as ratios. For example, methane and oxygen react to form carbon dioxide and water in a 1:2:1:2 ratio.

That ratio can be read in more than one way. It can mean 1 methane molecule and 2 oxygen molecules make 1 carbon dioxide molecule and 2 water molecules. It can also mean 1 mole of methane molecules and 2 moles of oxygen molecules make 1 mole of carbon dioxide molecules and 2 moles of water molecules. Chemical equations may also include physical states after the formulas. Common state labels are s for solid, l for liquid, g for gas, and aq for substances dissolved in water.

A balanced chemical equation has the same number of atoms for each element on both sides. This follows the law of conservation of matter. To check balance, count the atoms on the reactant side and the product side and compare the totals. To find the number of atoms in a formula, multiply the coefficient by the subscript. If an element appears in more than one formula on one side, add all of those atoms together.

Balancing a chemical equation means changing coefficients, not the formulas themselves. Fractions can be used as temporary coefficients during balancing. For the reaction of ethane with oxygen, carbon and hydrogen are balanced first by placing 2 in front of carbon dioxide and 3 in front of water. That leaves 7 oxygen atoms on the product side, so oxygen gets a fractional coefficient of 7/2. The final equation is then multiplied by 2 to turn all coefficients into whole numbers without changing the balance.
