Histogram

Przypomnijmy, że tabele rozkładu częstości pomagają uporządkować dane ilościowe z kilkoma kategoriami, takimi jak liczba książek w różnych przedziałach cenowych.
Takie tabele rozkładu częstości można wizualnie przedstawić za pomocą histogramów, wykresu składającego się z słupków o równej szerokości narysowanych bez przerw. 
Oś pionowa reprezentuje częstotliwości w każdej klasie, a oś pozioma reprezentuje granice klas. 
Czym więc są granice klasowe? Pierwszy interwał w tabeli danych pokazuje cenę w przedziale od 5 do 10 dolarów, a drugi interwał oferuje przedział cenowy od 11 do 16. 
Zwróć uwagę, że w tabeli brakuje przedziału cenowego od 10 do 11. Luka ta jest wypełniana poprzez obliczenie ich punktów środkowych, zwanych granicami klas.
Te granice klas są reprezentowane na osi poziomej, a odpowiadające im częstotliwości na osi pionowej. Pionowe paski, nazywane koszami, łączą granice klas i wartości częstotliwości.

Histogram jest graficzną reprezentacją w postaci x-y rozkładu danych w zbiorze danych. Pozioma oś x jest oznaczona tym, co reprezentują dane (na przykład odległość od domu do szkoły). Pionowa oś Y jest oznaczona jako częstotliwość lub częstotliwość względna (lub częstotliwość procentowa bądź prawdopodobieństwo). Wykres histogramu składa się z sąsiadujących ze sobą pól. Wysokości słupków odpowiadają wartościom częstotliwości. Wykres będzie miał ten sam kształt z odpowiednimi etykietami. A histogram shows how data is distributed in a data set. It uses an x-y graph to display the pattern of the data. The x-axis is labeled with what the data represents, such as distance from home to school. The y-axis shows frequency, relative frequency, percent frequency, or probability.

A histogram is made of adjoining bars. The height of each bar matches the frequency value for that class. Even with different labels, the graph keeps the same overall shape. Like a stemplot, a histogram can show the shape, center, and spread of the data.

Histograms are most useful for large, continuous, quantitative data sets. They can display large data sets clearly and quickly. A common rule of thumb is to use a histogram when a data set has 100 values or more.

To build a histogram, you choose how many bars or intervals, also called classes, will represent the data. Many histograms use five to 15 bars for clarity. The right number depends on the data and the level of detail needed.
