It is usually made with the same reagents and procedure as the sample solution, but without the analyte.

The main purpose of a blank solution is to control for background interference and contamination. Reagents, solvents, or lab equipment can sometimes create a detectable signal on their own. By measuring the blank first, scientists can identify that background signal and subtract it from the sample result.
