Objectivity is the principle of evaluating information without personal bias, allowing conclusions to rest on evidence rather than preference or assumption. In accounting, it requires financial records and reporting judgments to rely on verifiable documentation, such as invoices, contracts, transaction records, and independent corroboration, while applying recognized standards consistently. Objectivity strengthens the reliability, comparability, and neutrality of financial statements, helping investors, managers, auditors, and regulators assess an organization’s performance and financial position. Although some accounting estimates involve professional judgment, objective evidence and transparent methods help limit bias and support defensible reporting decisions.
