Cell Uptake Retention

Cell uptake retention describes the extent to which cells internalize a material and maintain it within the intracellular environment over time, an important property in bioengineering and therapeutic delivery. Uptake commonly occurs through endocytosis, after which intracellular trafficking can direct cargo to endosomes, lysosomes, or the cytosol, while efflux and degradation reduce retention. Measuring both uptake and retention helps evaluate nanoparticles, drug carriers, gene delivery systems, and engineered biomaterials. These measurements can guide the design of systems that provide sustained intracellular exposure, improve delivery efficiency, and clarify how cell-material interactions influence therapeutic performance and biosensor development.

Determination of the Calcium Retention Capacity of Isolated Mitochondria

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure to assess mitochondrial calcium retention capacity by monitoring real-time changes in fluorescence as mitochondria uptake calcium. This assay is useful for studying mitochondrial function and calcium-related processes, including apoptosis and neurodegenerative diseases.

Ferromagnetic Bare Metal Stent for Endothelial Cell Capture and Retention

Our goals were to design, manufacture and test ferromagnetic stents for endothelial cell capture. Ten stents were tested for fracture and 10 more stents were tested for retained magnetism. Finally, 10 stents were tested in-vitro and 8 more stents were implanted in 4 pigs to show cell capture and retention.

Radiolabeled Amino Acid Uptake Assay to Quantify Cellular Uptake of Amino Acids
