Anisodus Tanguticus

Anisodus tanguticus is a medicinal Solanaceae plant native to the Tibetan Plateau and a notable source of tropane alkaloids, making it important in natural-products chemistry and pharmacognosy. Its major alkaloids, including anisodamine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine, arise through specialized plant biosynthetic pathways and can act as competitive antagonists of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. Chemical studies investigate the extraction, structural identification, biosynthesis, and quality control of these constituents. This work supports research into anticholinergic medicines, plant-based drug discovery, metabolite profiling, and the influence of cultivation or environmental conditions on alkaloid production.

An Efficient and Rapid HPLC-QQQ-MS Method for the Quantitation of Tropane Alkaloids in Medicinal Plants

2026

This study developed a high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPLC-QQQ-MS) method to identify and quantify tropane alkaloids (hyoscyamine, anisodamine, scopolamine) in Anisodus tanguticus. The method proved rapid, accurate, and reliable for high-throughput analysis of medicinal plants.
