Muffle Furnace

A muffle furnace is a laboratory heating device that subjects materials to high, controlled temperatures while isolating them from direct contact with combustion gases, making it important for precise thermal treatment in chemistry. Electric heating elements warm an insulated chamber, allowing samples to undergo processes such as ashing, calcination, drying, or thermal decomposition under controlled temperature conditions. Chemists use muffle furnaces to determine ash content, prepare inorganic compounds, remove volatile components, and support gravimetric analysis. Consistent heating improves reproducibility and helps researchers study how composition, structure, and mass change during high-temperature reactions.
