Separation Techniques

Separation techniques are chemical methods used to isolate, purify, or identify components of a mixture, making them essential for analyzing substances and preparing materials. They exploit differences in physical or chemical properties, such as boiling point, solubility, particle size, density, or affinity for a stationary phase; processes including filtration, distillation, extraction, crystallization, and chromatography therefore separate components under controlled conditions. In chemistry, these approaches support compound purification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and reaction monitoring, while helping researchers assess composition and obtain products suitable for further study. Selecting an effective technique depends on the mixture’s properties and the desired degree of separation.
