Privacy Provision

Privacy provision is the set of policies, practices, and technical safeguards used to protect a person’s identifiable information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure, particularly in clinical care and research. It works by limiting data collection to necessary information, obtaining informed consent for appropriate uses, controlling access through role-based permissions, and reducing identifiability through coding or de-identification during storage and analysis. In clinical settings, these measures support ethical recruitment, secure electronic health records, responsible data sharing, and public trust while enabling researchers to use health information for diagnosis, treatment evaluation, and population studies. Effective privacy provision must also adapt to new data sources and collaborative research environments.
