Medical Curriculum

A medical curriculum is the organized framework of knowledge, clinical skills, professional attitudes, and learning experiences that prepares students to practice medicine safely and effectively. It works by sequencing foundational sciences, clinical instruction, simulation, supervised patient care, and assessment so learners progressively apply concepts, receive feedback, and demonstrate competency. Curricula may use lectures, problem-based learning, team-based activities, and workplace learning to connect biomedical principles with diagnosis, treatment, communication, and ethical decision-making. In medical education, a well-designed curriculum aligns teaching with competency standards and patient needs, supports consistent evaluation, and helps institutions adapt training to advances in science, technology, and health-care delivery.
