Sucrose Consumption Test

The Sucrose Consumption Test is a behavioral assay that measures an animal’s intake or preference for a sweet sucrose solution, providing an indirect assessment of reward-related behavior. In a controlled procedure, subjects receive access to sucrose solution, usually with water available for comparison, and researchers quantify consumption or sucrose preference over a defined period; reduced preference can indicate diminished sensitivity to normally rewarding stimuli, often termed anhedonia. In medicine and neuroscience, the test supports preclinical studies of stress, depression-related behavior, metabolic regulation, and antidepressant effects. Results must be interpreted alongside other behavioral and physiological measures because appetite, thirst, and motor changes can also affect intake.

Liquid Phase Reactor: Sucrose Inversion

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Both batch and continuous flow reactors are used in catalytic reactions. Packed beds, which use solid catalysts and a continuous flow, are the most common configuration. In the absence of an extensive recycle stream, such packed bed reactors are typically modeled as "plug flow". The other most common continuous reactor is a stirred tank, which is assumed to be perfectly...

Source: Rustad, M., et.al. Synthesis of Infectious Bacteriophages in an E. coli-based Cell-free Expression System. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This video demonstrates the purification of bacteriophages from a suspension containing host bacterial debris using a sucrose density gradient. It shows how the density gradient separates phages by buoyant density, enabling recovery of a visible band for resuspension and further analysis.

Responding for food or drug-paired cues increases over the course of a period of abstinence and this may relate to an increased susceptibility to relapse behaviors. Here we detail a procedure for evaluating this "incubation of craving" in rats that have self-administered sucrose.

Exp., (2017)This video demonstrates a two-step ultracentrifugation method using sucrose gradients and cushions to purify and concentrate viral particles from cell culture supernatant. The procedure enables separation based on buoyant density, allowing recovery of intact virus suitable for downstream applications.

Service Consumption

2024

Service consumption describes a consumer's journey when selecting, experiencing, and evaluating a service. This journey is divided into three main stages: pre-purchase, service encounter, and post-encounter. During the pre-purchase stage, consumers recognize a need, such as finding a new gym membership. They then search for information, comparing gyms based on factors like membership fees, equipment quality, class offerings, and location. This stage shapes their expectations and influences...
