Dsred Ssr Labeling

DsRed SSR labeling is a fluorescence-based method that uses the red fluorescent protein DsRed to visualize SSR-associated proteins or cellular structures, supporting studies of molecular localization and pharmacological responses. The approach typically links DsRed to a target sequence or expresses it under an SSR-dependent genetic design; excitation of the protein produces red fluorescence that can be detected by fluorescence microscopy or related imaging systems. In pharmacology, this labeling strategy can help track receptor or protein distribution, monitor cellular trafficking, and assess drug-induced changes in living or fixed cells, providing a direct readout for mechanistic and screening studies.

The advent of site-specific recombinase (SSR) technology and the Cre/lox system has led to numerous advances in molecular biology, and has proven itself as a valuable tool for assessing gene function in transgenic animals. This interview discusses the mechanism of site specific recombination by Cyclization recombinase (Cre) and how the use of this enzyme has led to the development of conditional mutagenesis, which has significant advantages over traditional knock out strategies.

Metabolic Labeling

2023

Metabolic labeling is used to probe the biochemical transformations and modifications that occur in a cell. This is accomplished by using chemical analogs that mimic the structure of natural biomolecules. Cells utilize analogs in their endogenous biochemical processes, producing compounds that are labeled. The label allows for the incorporation of detection and affinity tags, which can then be used to elucidate metabolic pathways using other biochemical analytical techniques, such as SDS-PAGE...
