Person Centered Approach

The person-centered approach is a humanistic framework in psychology that views individuals as capable of growth and emphasizes their subjective experiences, autonomy, and inherent worth. In person-centered therapy, the practitioner supports change by creating a nonjudgmental relationship marked by empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard, rather than directing the client toward predetermined solutions. This supportive environment can help clients increase self-awareness, resolve discrepancies between their experiences and self-concept, and make personally meaningful choices. The approach has influenced counseling, education, healthcare, and other helping professions by promoting collaborative relationships and respect for individual perspectives.
