Potential Energy

- Potencial de energia é uma forma armazenada de energia que tem o potencial para fazer o trabalho, para ser convertido em energia cinética. 
Alimentos, por exemplo, tem energia armazenada na forma de ligações químicas entre átomos. 
Alguns laços, como aqueles neste composto de sabor, são fortes e, portanto, têm baixo potencial. 
Enquanto outros, no caso dos açúcares, são fracos, e tem alta energia potencial. 
Essas ligações são quebradas para produzir dióxido de carbono e água que têm ligações químicas muito mais fortes. 
Este processo libera energia, aproveitada na forma de ATP para ser usado em outro lugar na célula.

A energia potencial é uma forma de energia armazenada que tem potencial para trabalhar e, portanto, ser convertida em energia cinética. A energia gravitacional, por exemplo, é a energia potencial encontrada dentro da força gravitacional. Energia química é a energia potencial armazenada dentro das moléculas devido às ligações entre os seus átomos. Ligações fracas têm alta energia potencial, enquanto que ligações fortes têm baixa energia potencial.
 
 <h4>Alta Energia Potencial</h4>
 
 A energia pode ser armazenada na forma de ligações químicas. Algumas ligações são fracas e, portanto, têm alta energia potencial. Por exemplo, ligações de hidrogénio encontradas entre moléculas de água ou aquelas que se formam entre nucleótidos de guanina (G) e citosina (C) em uma dupla hélice de DNA.
 
 <h4>Baixa Energia Potencial</h4>
 
 Ligações fortes, por outro lado, têm menos energia potencial. Por exemplo, as moléculas de NaCl contêm ligações iónicas formadas a partir da atração eletrostática de catiões de sódio e aniões de cloreto. Outro exemplo são as ligações covalentes que se formam a partir da atração mútua de moléculas por um par compartilhado de eletrões. Por exemplo, moléculas de hidrogénio formam-se através da ligação covalente de dois átomos de hidrogénio.
 
 <h4>Açúcares Como Energia Potencial</h4>
 
 Os alimentos têm energia armazenada na forma de ligações químicas entre os átomos. Quando os animais ingerem açúcares, ligações fracas entre carbono e oxigénio, bem como aquelas entre hidrogénio e outros átomos de carbono são quebradas para fazer dióxido de carbono e água, que têm ligações químicas muito mais fortes. Este processo liberta energia na forma de ATP, que é então usado para guiar reações bioquímicas em outros locais da célula.

Stored energy in motion and bonds is called potential energy. It depends on the structure of an object or the position of matter in space. Raising a kettlebell changes its location and increases its potential energy. A stretched rubber band also stores potential energy, which can later change into kinetic energy.

Chemical bonds between atoms hold another form of stored energy called chemical energy. These bonds involve attractive forces, and that energy can change into other forms during a chemical reaction. Plants and other photosynthetic organisms first convert solar energy into chemical energy in food. That energy is stored in macronutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
