A dinâmica dos fluidos refere-se ao estudo dos fluidos em movimento. O movimento fluido é representado por vetores de velocidade ou linhas de fluxo.
Uma infinidade de vetores de velocidade em diferentes pontos mostra o movimento do fluido por setas que representam suas magnitudes e direção.
Linhas de fluxo são as curvas obtidas plotando a tangente ao vetor de velocidade instantânea em cada ponto do fluido.
O fluxo de fluido pode ser laminar ou turbulento. No fluxo laminar, o fluido viaja em camadas lisas e paralelas, enquanto no fluxo turbulento, o fluido viaja irregularmente e seu movimento muda abrupta e continuamente ao longo do tempo.
O padrão de fluxo do fluido depende da velocidade do fluxo, rugosidade do caminho do fluxo e densidade do fluido.
Um rio que flui através de uma região plana representa o fluxo laminar, mas quando uma lancha o atravessa, seu fluxo se torna turbulento formando redemoinhos e ondas.
Uma fonte de água exibe fluxo laminar em menor velocidade de fluxo, porém, em maior velocidade, seu fluxo torna-se turbulento.

Laminar and Turbulent Flow

A dinâmica dos fluidos é o estudo dos fluidos em movimento. Vetores de velocidade são frequentemente usados para ilustrar o movimento dos fluidos em aplicações como a meteorologia. Por exemplo, o vento - o movimento fluido do ar na atmosfera - pode ser representado por vetores que indicam a velocidade e direção do vento em qualquer ponto de um mapa. Outro método para representar o movimento dos fluidos é uma linha de corrente. Uma linha de corrente representa o caminho de um pequeno volume de fluido enquanto está fluindo. Quando o padrão de fluxo muda com o tempo, as linhas de corrente não coincidem com as linhas de fluxo. A velocidade é sempre tangencial à linha de corrente.

O fluxo de fluido pode ser laminar ou turbulento. O fluxo laminar (às vezes descrito como um fluxo constante) é representado por linhas de corrente suaves e paralelas, enquanto no fluxo turbulento, as linhas de corrente são irregulares e mudam ao longo do tempo. Fluid dynamics studies fluids in motion. Scientists often use velocity vectors to show fluid motion in places like meteorology. For example, wind in the atmosphere can be mapped with vectors that show the speed and direction of the wind at each point.

Another way to show fluid motion is with a streamline. A streamline shows the path of a small volume of fluid as it flows. When the flow changes with time, the streamlines do not match the flow lines. The fluid velocity is always tangential to the streamline.

Fluid flow can be laminar or turbulent. Laminar flow, sometimes called steady flow, has smooth, parallel streamlines. Turbulent flow has irregular streamlines that change over time. In turbulent flow, parts of the fluid mix together, and small circular regions can form that look like whirlpools.

This change can happen when a fluid reaches a certain critical speed. Smoke from an incense stick often rises smoothly at first and then starts to form swirls and eddies. That smooth motion is laminar flow, while the swirls and eddies show turbulent flow. Blood flow in the human aorta is normally laminar, but a small disturbance, such as a heart pathology, can make it turbulent. Water from a faucet is also laminar at low speed and becomes turbulent at high speed.
