Essas tabelas de distribuição de frequência podem ser representadas visualmente usando histogramas, um gráfico que consiste em barras de igual largura desenhadas sem lacunas. 
O eixo vertical representa as frequências em cada classe e o eixo horizontal representa os limites da classe. 
Então, quais são os limites de classe? O primeiro intervalo na tabela de dados mostra o preço variando de 5 a 10 dólares, e o segundo intervalo oferece a faixa de preço de 11 a 16. 
Observe que a faixa de preço entre 10 e 11 está faltando na tabela. Essa lacuna é preenchida calculando seus pontos médios, chamados de limites de classe.
Esses limites de classe são representados no eixo horizontal e as frequências correspondentes no eixo vertical. As barras verticais, chamadas de compartimentos, conectam os limites da classe e os valores de frequência.

O eixo y vertical é rotulado como frequência ou frequência relativa (ou frequência percentual ou probabilidade).

Um gráfico de histograma consiste em caixas contíguas (adjacentes). As alturas das barras correspondem aos valores de frequência. O gráfico terá o mesmo formato com os respectivos rótulos. O histograma (como o gráfico de referência) pode fornecer a forma, o centro e a distribuição dos dados. Normalmente, usar-se-á um histograma para exibir conjuntos de dados quantitativos grandes e contínuos. A principal vantagem de um histograma é que ele pode exibir facilmente grandes conjuntos de dados. Uma regra prática é usar um histograma quando o conjunto de dados consiste em 100 valores ou mais. Para construir um histograma, pode-se decidir quantas barras ou intervalos, também chamados de classes, representam os dados. Muitos histogramas consistem em cinco a 15 barras ou classes para maior clareza, mas é possível escolher o número de barras necessárias.

A histogram shows how data is distributed in a data set. It uses an x-y graph to display the pattern of the data. The x-axis is labeled with what the data represents, such as distance from home to school. The y-axis shows frequency, relative frequency, percent frequency, or probability.

A histogram is made of adjoining bars. The height of each bar matches the frequency value for that class. Even with different labels, the graph keeps the same overall shape. Like a stemplot, a histogram can show the shape, center, and spread of the data.

Histograms are most useful for large, continuous, quantitative data sets. They can display large data sets clearly and quickly. A common rule of thumb is to use a histogram when a data set has 100 values or more.

To build a histogram, you choose how many bars or intervals, also called classes, will represent the data. Many histograms use five to 15 bars for clarity. The right number depends on the data and the level of detail needed.
