As capacidades respiratórias referem-se à quantidade máxima de ar que pode ser inspirada e exalada, geralmente medida em litros.
Primeiro, a capacidade inspiratória ou CI refere-se ao ar máximo respirado com esforço total. É calculado somando-se o volume corrente e o volume de reserva inspiratória. Um valor normal de IC varia de 2,4 a 3,6 litros.
A capacidade residual funcional, ou CRF, é o ar que permanece nos pulmões após uma expiração normal - os valores normais de CRF variam de 2,6 a 3,2 litros.
A capacidade vital, ou CV, é o ar máximo que se pode exalar após uma inspiração completa. Um valor normal para VC é de 4 a 5 litros.
A capacidade pulmonar total ou CPT representa todos os volumes dentro de ambos os pulmões combinados em um determinado momento, incluindo volume corrente, volume de reserva inspiratório, volume de reserva expiratório e volume residual.

Inspiratory capacity, or IC, is the maximum amount of air that can be inhaled with full effort. It is found by adding tidal volume and inspiratory reserve volume. IC usually ranges from 2.4 to 3.6 liters.

Functional residual capacity, or FRC, is the air left in the lungs after a normal exhalation. It is calculated from expiratory reserve volume and residual volume. FRC typically ranges from 2.6 to 3.2 liters. This capacity helps maintain gas exchange between breaths, keeps a baseline oxygen level in the lungs, and provides a buffer for efficient breathing.
