Correlation and Regression

Regressão e correlação são técnicas estatísticas que examinam a relação entre duas variáveis. 
Enquanto a regressão é usada para entender a mudança em uma variável causada pela alteração em outra, a correlação mede a força e a direção da correlação linear entre as duas variáveis. 
A regressão linear estabelece a relação entre duas variáveis ajustando uma linha aos pontos de dados. A equação da reta prevê de forma confiável o valor de uma variável desconhecida com base em uma variável conhecida.

Correlation and regression are used to study the relationship between two variables. Correlation shows how strongly the variables are associated. Regression helps describe that relationship with a line that can be used for prediction.

In linear regression, the relationship is written as a correlation coefficient. This coefficient is shown as r and ranges from -1 to +1. A positive value means the variables move in the same direction. A negative value means they move in opposite directions.

Values close to +1 or -1 show a strong correlation. A value near zero means there is no linear correlation. Statisticians use linear regression to find both the correlation coefficient and the best-fit equation.

The best-fit equation can then be used to predict a signal value, or y, in the linear equation. It can also be used to calculate the concentration of the substance that gives the signal, or x. This makes correlation and regression useful tools for analyzing data and making predictions.
