Os métodos de amostragem comuns são amostragem aleatória, crítica, sistemática, estratificada e por conglomerados. 
Na amostragem aleatória, uma amostra é obtida selecionando aleatoriamente indivíduos de uma população sem preferência, cada um com igual chance de ser selecionado.
Pelo contrário, a amostragem de julgamento é um processo não aleatório. Aqui, uma amostra é selecionada com base nas informações disponíveis sobre a população.
A amostragem sistemática é um método de seleção de indivíduos de uma população em intervalos regulares. Por exemplo, para gerar um tamanho de amostra de 4 indivíduos de uma população de 12, o ponto de partida é escolhido aleatoriamente entre um e o intervalo de amostragem. Assim, cada 3º membro é selecionado para formar uma amostra de 4 indivíduos.
Na amostragem estratificada, a população é dividida em subgrupos ou estratos com base nas características compartilhadas pelos indivíduos. Os indivíduos são então selecionados proporcionalmente de cada subgrupo para compor uma amostra final para análise.
Da mesma forma, a amostragem por conglomerados também envolve a divisão da população em subgrupos ou conglomerados. Alguns clusters são então selecionados aleatoriamente para avaliação.

A amostragem intencional, também conhecida como amostragem proposital ou por julgamento, é um método não probabilístico que depende do julgamento ou experiência do pesquisador para escolher indivíduos ou amostras considerados mais adequados para o estudo. Por exemplo, suponha que um pesquisador esteja estudando a bioacumulação de bifenilos policlorados (PCBs) em peixes. Nesse caso, ele pode amostrar seletivamente apenas peixes que atendem a critérios específicos, como ser menor ou parecer pouco saudável. Esse método é frequentemente usado quando agências reguladoras exigem critérios específicos para definir a amostra que está sendo coletada.

A amostragem sistemática envolve selecionar cada n-ésimo indivíduo de uma população após escolher aleatoriamente um ponto de partida. Por exemplo, em estudos ambientais, a amostragem sistemática pode ser usada para coletar amostras de um lago dividindo-o em uma grade e coletando amostras em intervalos regulares de cada seção, garantindo a cobertura espacial de todo o lago. Essa abordagem ajuda em estudos que envolvem tendências espaciais, como distribuição de oxigênio na água.

A amostragem estratificada envolve dividir a população em subgrupos, ou estratos, distintos com base em características específicas relevantes para a pesquisa. As amostras são então selecionadas aleatoriamente de cada estrato em proporção à sua representação na população. Por exemplo, ao estudar material particulado no ar urbano, a amostragem estratificada pode ser empregada dividindo a população em categorias de tamanho de partícula (por exemplo, fina, grossa). As amostras são então retiradas de cada grupo de tamanho de partícula para avaliar sua contribuição para os níveis gerais de poluição. Este método fornece uma análise mais precisa dentro de cada subgrupo e reduz o erro de amostragem.

A amostragem por conglomerados envolve dividir a população em conglomerados ou grupos, idealmente mini representações da população. Alguns conglomerados são escolhidos aleatoriamente, e todos dentro dos conglomerados selecionados são amostrados. Este método é comumente usado em estudos de larga escala onde restrições logísticas limitam o número de locais de amostragem. Sampling is a key step in analytical chemistry. It helps researchers collect data that represents a larger population. The main sampling methods in this topic are random, judgmental, systematic, stratified, and cluster sampling.

Random sampling gives each member of the population an equal chance of being chosen. Researchers often use a random number generator or a lottery-style method. For example, a polymer sheet can be divided into 1 cm x 1 cm sections, and 10 sections can be selected at random for analysis. This helps reduce bias and supports a sample that reflects the whole population.

Judgmental sampling is also called purposive or selective sampling. It depends on the researcher&amp;#39;s judgment to choose samples that fit the study. For example, a researcher studying bioaccumulation of PCBs in fish may choose smaller fish or fish that appear unhealthy. Regulatory agencies may also require specific criteria for this kind of sampling.

Systematic sampling uses a random starting point and then selects every n th individual. It can also be used in environmental studies with a grid, such as sampling a lake at regular intervals. This method helps provide spatial coverage across the lake. It is useful when studying spatial trends, such as oxygen distribution in water.

Stratified sampling divides a population into strata, or subgroups, based on a feature linked to the study. Samples are then randomly taken from each stratum in proportion to its size in the population. For example, particulate matter in urban air can be grouped by particle size, such as fine and coarse particles. This approach can improve precision within each subgroup and reduce sampling error.

Cluster sampling divides the population into clusters, or groups that can act as mini-representations of the whole. A few clusters are randomly selected, and everyone within those clusters is sampled. This method is often used in large studies when the number of sampling sites must be limited. For example, a groundwater contamination study may divide a region into geographic clusters and then sample all available wells in the chosen clusters.
