Um transistor de efeito de campo de junção é usado em circuitos eletrônicos para controlar correntes elétricas.
Os JFETs consistem em uma barra de silício tipo N ou tipo P contendo junções PN nas laterais e vêm em duas variações principais: canal N e canal P.
Na estrutura cristalina de um JFET tipo N, uma fina camada de material tipo N está em um substrato tipo P. A porta é formada no topo do canal N usando material do tipo P. Os fios condutores são fixados na extremidade do canal e do portão.
Em um JFET de canal N, uma tensão de porta negativa repele os elétrons do canal, criando uma região de depleção e reduzindo a condutividade do canal.
Por outro lado, em um JFET de canal P, uma tensão de porta positiva repele os orifícios do canal, resultando em condutividade de canal reduzida por meio de polarização reversa.
Ao controlar a tensão porta-fonte, a largura da região de depleção pode ser ajustada, gerenciando efetivamente o fluxo de corrente através do canal.
A resistência do dreno CA, normalmente variando em várias centenas de ohms, determina a quantidade de corrente que flui através do canal. Outros parâmetros-chave de um JFET incluem transcondutância e fator de amplificação.

Por outro lado, um JFET de canal P apresenta um canal semicondutor do tipo P com material de porta do tipo N em ambos os lados. Nessa estrutura, a aplicação de uma tensão de porta positiva ao canal do tipo P repele os buracos, aumentando a região de depleção e diminuindo a condutividade. Essa polarização reversa é fundamental para o controle da corrente através do dispositivo.
A polarização eficaz é fundamental para os JFETs usados como interruptores ou amplificadores. A tensão porta-fonte aplicada ajusta com precisão a largura da região de depleção, gerenciando o fluxo de corrente através do canal. Biasing of FET

JFET gate-source bias controls current flow in a junction field effect transistor. A JFET uses one carrier type and comes in N-channel or P-channel forms. In both cases, the channel is surrounded by PN junctions, and those junctions help control how current moves through the device.

In an N-channel JFET, N-type material forms the channel on a P-type substrate. The gate is made of P-type material. Biasing this device means applying a negative voltage to the gate relative to the source. That negative voltage repels electrons in the channel and creates a depletion region, which narrows the channel and lowers its conductivity.

A P-channel JFET works in the opposite way. It has a P-type semiconductor channel with N-type gate material on either side. Applying a positive gate voltage to the P-type channel repels holes, increases the depletion region, and decreases conductivity. This reverse biasing is what helps control current through the device.

Proper JFET biasing is important when the device is used as a switch or an amplifier. The gate-source voltage adjusts the width of the depletion region and manages the current in the channel. Biasing also affects AC drain resistance, which is typically several hundred ohms, along with transconductance and amplification factor. Good biasing helps keep the JFET away from unwanted saturation or cutoff and supports stable circuit performance.
