As dimensões de um tijolo são determinadas por três medidas: sua largura, altura e comprimento.

Brick sizes are important in construction because they affect both the look of a building and its structural strength. Bricks are measured by three dimensions: width, thickness, and length. Builders often design them to fit modular measurements, usually in multiples of 4 inches or 8 inches in width, so they work well with other building materials.

Most bricks are modular bricks. These bricks are sized to include the mortar joint, which is the layer of mortar that bonds masonry units together. The nominal size of a brick is its dimension including that mortar joint. This sizing system helps builders create uniform walls with consistent spacing and fit.

Several brick types meet different building needs. Engineer Modular, Closure Modular, Roman, Norman, Utility, and Meridian bricks are all used for structural or visual purposes. Utility bricks are larger than standard modular bricks. They are usually about 4 inches high and 12 inches long, so fewer bricks are needed during masonry work.

Using utility bricks can lower labor costs because fewer units must be placed. Their larger size can also increase a wall’s compressive strength by reducing the amount of mortar used. One utility brick covers the same area as four and a half modular bricks, which can also change how large a wall appears. For special projects, custom-sized bricks can be made to achieve unique details and meet specific design or structural needs.
