Design Example: Creating a Hydraulic Model of a Dam Spillway

Um modelo hidráulico de um vertedouro de barragem geralmente é criado reduzindo o projeto, normalmente para uma proporção de 1:15, para replicar as principais características de fluxo, como distribuição de velocidade, padrões de fluxo, turbulência e dissipação de energia.
Este modelo reduzido permite um exame detalhado de como a água flui sobre o vertedouro.
O modelo segue a similaridade do número de Froude para manter as forças gravitacionais e inerciais proporcionais, que são necessárias para representar com precisão os fluxos de superfície livre à medida que ocorrem na estrutura de tamanho normal.
O modelo em escala reduz a descarga e a velocidade de acordo com o fator de escala, garantindo taxas de fluxo gerenciáveis e experimentação segura.
Por exemplo, se o protótipo lida com uma vazão de 120 m3/s, a vazão do modelo é ajustada para aproximadamente 0,138 m3/s mantendo condições de vazão realistas.
