5 Percent Co2

5% CO2 is a controlled atmospheric condition used in cell and tissue culture to maintain the chemical environment required for biological samples, including neuronal cultures. In a humidified incubator, CO2 dissolves in bicarbonate-buffered medium and establishes a carbonic acid–bicarbonate equilibrium, helping stabilize pH near physiological levels as cells metabolize and release acidic products. In neuroscience, this condition supports the survival, growth, and functional study of neurons, glial cells, and neural tissue, improving consistency in experiments involving development, signaling, disease modeling, and pharmacological testing. Accurate control of CO2 is therefore essential for reproducible culture conditions and reliable interpretation of cellular responses.

Determining the Mass Percent Composition in an Aqueous Solution

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. Neal Abrams — SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Determining the composition of a solution is an important analytical and forensic technique. When solutions are made with water, they are referred to as being aqueous, or containing water. The primary component of a solution is referred to as the solvent, and the dissolved minor component is called the solute. The solute is dissolved in the solvent to make a solution. Water is the most common solvent in...

Bond Polarity, Dipole Moment, and Percent Ionic Character

Bond Polarity The absolute value of the difference in electronegativity (ΔEN) of two bonded atoms provides a rough measure of the polarity to be expected in the bond and, thus, the bond type. When the difference is very small or zero, the bond is covalent and nonpolar. When it is large, the bond is polar covalent or ionic. The absolute values of the electronegativity differences between the atoms in the bonds H–H, H–Cl, and Na–Cl are 0 (nonpolar), 0.9 (polar covalent), and 2.1 (ionic),...

100-Percent-Reserve Banking

2025

Imagine an economy without any banks; the entire money supply is held by the public in the form of physical currency. This means that the amount of money in the economy is equal to the total value of currency held by households and firms. Now, a commercial bank is introduced, and the public is assumed to deposit all their currency into the bank. If the bank does not issue any loans and instead holds all the deposited money in reserve, it is known as a 100-percent-reserve banking system. In this...

The 5 c's of Pricing

2024

The 5 Cs of pricing provide a comprehensive framework for strategic pricing decisions. They include: Company Objectives: The company's goals are pivotal in determining pricing. Whether the aim is to maximize profit, increase market share, or survive in a competitive market, it will directly influence the pricing strategy. Cost: It involves calculating the total cost of producing a product or service, including fixed and variable costs. Pricing must cover these costs and provide a reasonable...

5-Number Summary

2023

In a dataset, the 5-number summary includes the minimum data value, the data value of the first quartile, the median data value or data value of the second quartile, the data value of the third quartile, and the maximum data value. These 5 data values can be visualized as a box and whisker plot. In a box plot, the minimum and maximum data values represent the lower and upper whiskers in the graph, and the median is designated as the center of the box in the chart. The first quartile and third...
