Vi beskriver en metode for behandling av lunges og matchet perifert blod fra kronisk HIV-smittede personer på antiretroviral behandling for å vurdere lunge HIV-reservoarer. Disse metodene resulterer i oppkjøpet av svært rene CD4 T-celler og alveolære makrofager som senere kan brukes til immunfenotyping og HIV DNA/RNA-quantifications ved ultrasensitive polymerase kjedere reaksjon.
