The Water Cycle

Гидросфера Земли включает в себя все области, в которых происходит накопление и движение воды. Поскольку вода является основой всех живых процессов, круговорот воды чрезвычайно важен для динамики экосистемы. 

 Круговорот воды начинается, когда солнце нагревает поверхностные воды на суше и в океанах, заставляя их испаряться и попадать в атмосферу в виде пара. Водяной пар конденсируется в облака и в конечном итоге выпадает в виде осадков в виде дождя, снега или града. 

 После падения на Землю вода может попадать в большие водоемы, снова испаряться, оставаться на поверхности в виде стока или просачиваться в почву, где она может поглощаться растениями и выделяться (выделяться из пор в листьях и испаряться в атмосферу), или станет грунтовыми водами. Глубокие грунтовые воды могут образовывать резервуары или водоносные горизонты, а неглубокие грунтовые воды в конечном итоге достигают водоема, где они могут испаряться в виде поверхностных вод, чтобы продолжить цикл.

 Клетки человека на 70% состоят из воды, и почти все организмы на суше нуждаются в пресной воде для выживания. Однако 97,5% воды на Земле - это соленая вода, и менее 1% пресной воды доступно через реки и озера. Большая часть воды на Земле существует в виде льда, грунтовых вод или соленой воды в океанах и морях, недоступна для многих растений, животных и грибов и недоступна для краткосрочных циклов. Затем водяной пар конденсируется с образованием облаков и в конечном итоге падает на Землю в виде осадков (например, дождя или снега). Вода, которая возвращается на поверхность Земли, может: заполнять водоемы, снова испаряться с земли, проникать в почву, поглощаться и выделяться растениями, течь под поверхностью в виде грунтовых вод или храниться в течение длительных периодов времени в водоносных горизонтах.

Water movement through Earth systems connects the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, the land, and living things. The hydrosphere includes every place where water is stored or moves. Because water supports living processes, its movement is important for ecosystem dynamics.

The cycle starts when the sun warms surface water on land and in the oceans. That water evaporates and enters the atmosphere as vapor. Water can also move into the air by sublimation, which is ice changing directly into vapor, and by transpiration, which is water released from plant leaves and then evaporated.

Water vapor cools and condenses into clouds. It later falls back to Earth as precipitation, such as rain, snow, or hail. After that, the water may collect in large bodies of water, evaporate again from the ground, run off across the surface, or seep into soil.

Some water in the soil is absorbed by plants and returned to the atmosphere through transpiration. Some becomes groundwater, which moves below the surface. Deep groundwater can form reservoirs called aquifers, while shallow groundwater eventually reaches a body of water and can evaporate again as surface water.

Water also stays stored for long periods before it enters the cycle again. Human cells are over 70% water, and almost all land organisms need fresh water to survive. Yet 97.5% of Earth’s water is saltwater, and less than 1% of freshwater is accessible in rivers and lakes.

Most water on Earth is locked up as ice, groundwater, or saltwater in the oceans and seas. These stores have long residence times, which means the water remains there for extended periods. They are not part of short-term cycling until the water moves back into the active water cycle.
