Режим среза возникает, когда оба перехода имеют обратное смещение, в результате чего ток между клеммами отсутствует. Транзистор действует как разомкнутый переключатель.
В инвертированном режиме переход «эмиттер-база» имеет обратное смещение, в то время как переход «коллектор-база» смещен вперед. Его часто называют инвертированным активным режимом, в котором коллектор становится излучателем и наоборот.

Эта установка позволяет инжектировать электроны из эмиттера в базу, блокируя при этом основные носители заряда на коллекторе. Результатом является значительное усиление: небольшой ток базы управляет значительно большим током коллектора.

Режим насыщения: в этом режиме переходы эмиттер-база и база-коллектор смещены в прямом направлении. Режим насыщения аналогичен закрытому переключателю с минимальным смещением напряжения и максимальным выходным током. Этот режим типичен для операций переключения, когда транзистору необходимо проводить большой ток через свои выводы.

Режим отсечки: здесь оба перехода смещены в обратном направлении, эффективно останавливая любой ток, протекающий через транзистор, подобно разомкнутому переключателю. В этом режиме прекращается протекание тока, что крайне важно в цифровых схемах для представления состояния «выключено».

Инвертированный режим: редко встречается в большинстве приложений. Инвертированный режим включает в себя переход эмиттер-база с обратным смещением и переход коллектор-база с прямым смещением. Такое расположение меняет роли коллектора и эмиттера. Инвертированный режим характеризуется меньшим коэффициентом усиления по току, в первую очередь из-за меньшей эффективности коллектора, действующего как эмиттер, из-за более низкого уровня легирования по сравнению с базой.

Modes of Operations of BJT

A bipolar junction transistor (BJT) works in four modes that depend on how its two junctions are biased. Those modes are active, saturation, cut-off, and inverted. The biasing pattern controls whether the transistor amplifies current or acts like a switch.

Active mode is the most common mode for amplification. In this mode, the emitter-base junction is forward-biased and the base-collector junction is reverse-biased. Electrons move from the emitter into the base, while the collector blocks most majority carriers. A small base current can then control a much larger collector current.

Saturation mode happens when both the emitter-base and base-collector junctions are forward-biased. It works like a closed switch. The voltage bias is minimal, and the current output is maximal. This mode is often used in switching circuits when the transistor must conduct a high current.

Cut-off mode is the opposite case, with both junctions reverse-biased. Current flow through the transistor is effectively stopped, so it behaves like an open switch. In digital circuits, this state is important for representing an off condition.

Inverted mode is less common in normal use. In this mode, the emitter-base junction is reverse-biased and the collector-base junction is forward-biased. The roles of the collector and emitter are reversed. This mode has lower current gain because the collector is a less efficient emitter than the base due to its lower doping level.
